Our process

Specifications will vary for each job, but we provide general information on the process we use.

1

Our standard finish color is white, but you may choose a specific color for our gel coats.
We can fiberglass to wood, concrete, and brick. For sheet metal and other materials, we will assess any potential problems with adhesion and let you know if it will work. If you have questions about adherence, talk to one of our experts.

We want you to have the highest quality fiberglass membrane possible, so please build the subsurface with custom fiberglass in mind. If you have questions before you build, we will be happy to suggest the best subsurface to make sure you are pleased with your finished fiberglass.
Remember that you will need a minimum of ¼ per linear foot pitch built into the roof deck. Without this amount of pitch, you may encounter problems with standing water.

When building on standard “16 center, a minimum of ¾ exterior plywood must be used as a sub-flooring to offer proper support for a fiberglass finish.

2

If you are using fiberglass on your walls, all stucco, vinyl, or other sidings must be peeled away to allow us to tie the fiberglass to the wall properly. Siding our counter-flashing may then be installed over the fiberglass.

Please consult with us before any job that will include railings. Through-posts for rails should be installed before arrival so that you do not need to drill holes or cut into the fiberglass membrane to insert the rail system. Again, our experts are on hand to help with any information you need prior to construction.

3

We request that doors leading to the deck be removed prior to our arrival so that the threshold(s) can be sealed with a continuous sheet of fiberglass to ensure there will be no leakage or patching required.
Railings must not be installed until a gel coat or the second layer of resin is complete.
During and after the installation of the fiberglass, do not put any holes into the fiberglass membrane.

Modern coatings for fiberglass offer incredible benefits to owners, but the best coatings can only do so much to compensate for design flaws in the structure. If you are using fiberglass, work with us before the construction to avoid problems. We care about the quality of your project!
